RenewChem

RenewChem is a Circular Bio-based Europe Joint Undertaking (CBE JU) project developing a first-of-a-kind industrial facility for producing high-value, bio-based long-chain alcohols from renewable ethanol. The project aims to demonstrate how renewable feedstocks can be converted into valuable chemicals for industrial applications, reducing reliance on fossil-based alternatives.

About the project

RenewChem brings together industrial and research partners to demonstrate the production of bio-based long-chain alcohols at industrial scale. The project builds on Catalyxx’s technology for converting renewable ethanol into higher-value alcohols, including butanol, hexanol and octanol.

The project will establish a first-of-a-kind industrial facility and demonstrate the technology at a scale relevant for commercial deployment, while assessing its environmental and economic performance.

WHAT RENEWCHEM AIMS TO ACHIEVE

The project aims to demonstrate a commercially viable route for producing bio-based long-chain alcohols from renewable ethanol, creating alternatives to fossil-derived chemicals used across industrial value chains.

By scaling the technology towards industrial deployment, the project seeks to reduce the carbon footprint of chemical production while creating new opportunities for renewable feedstocks and bio-based products.

The project also assesses the environmental and economic performance of the process to support future replication and commercialisation.

MAGFI’S CONTRIBUTION

Magfi supports the project through communication, dissemination and exploitation activities, helping translate the project’s technical innovation into clear messages for industry and wider stakeholders.

Our work focuses on communicating the value of renewable long-chain alcohols, supporting the project’s visibility and helping identify opportunities for the uptake and future exploitation of its results.
