Founded by Filippo Giancarlo Martinelli (MBA, PDEng, MSc) in Q1 2020, Magfi is now established in Malta and Ireland.

Filippo Giancarlo Martinelli

Filippo Giancarlo Martinelli (MBA, EngD, MSc) is the founder and owner of the Magfi <sustainability in action> ecosystem, having over 10 years of experience working at the interface between management consulting, fundraising, and sales within a number of deeptech sectors including biotech, foodtech and cleantech. As of Dec 2023, Magfi (https://magfi.eu/) has direct presence in Malta (Magfi ltd “MedSea”) and Ireland (Magfi Atlantic limited), with a network of advisors based in over 5 European countries.


In 2019 he had the pleasure to serve as Chief Executive Officer (CEO) for Irish Bioeconomy Foundation <Growing Ireland’s Bioeconomy Together> (https://bioeconomyfoundation.com/), Ireland national bioeconomy association and innovation cluster, which he still supports as European Ambassador and coordinator of the EU-funded project BioeconomyVentures, Europe´s largest initiative for matchmaking startups and investors in the bioeconomy. Jointly Magfi and IBF are now operating the BioInvestEurope initiative: https://bioinvesteurope.eu/

Prior to that he worked within PNO Consultants group of firms, the European leader in grant consulting and innovation processes management, moving from Consultant (2014-2016) to Pipeline Manager (2016-2017), Brussels-EU P&L unit Operations Manager (2017-2018) as well as International Sector Team Leader Agri-Food Bioeconomy (2018). During his career, Filippo has gathered direct technical experience operating within the fields of biofuels (Agroils Technologies), biochemicals (Delft Advanced Biorenewables) and bio-actives (KtedoGEN/NAICONS), as well as management consulting and project development experience for innovative projects within several other industrial sectors such as agri-food, forestry, marine, textile and critical raw materials, being deeply involved into enabling the implementation of cutting-edge sustainable innovation within society.

His educational background includes a BSc in Biotechnology (2009, Parma, IT), an MSc in Industrial Biotechnology (2011, Milan, IT), an Engineering Doctorate (EngD) in BioProduct Design (2014, Delft, NL) and an Executive MBA (2017, Rotterdam, NL).

In his free time, he is passionate about history, geopolitics and travels.

Vanessa Spadaro

Vanessa Spadaro (MEc) joined Magfi <sustainability in action> from the very beginning as its first Advisor. At Magfi ltd “MedSea” she is responsible for Finance, Legal and HR matter as well as Director of Magfi Atlantic Limited. On behalf of Magfi and on her own she structures, deploys and manage EU funded projects´ compliance and reporting systems for several initiatives and organisations, including assisting delicate cases and support pre- and post- Audit interventions.

Between 2017 and 2019 she worked as Programme Coordinator of several editions of the intensive Master programme created by the Belgian-Italian Chamber of Commerce focused on the EU project management. Within the same period, Vanessa was also responsible of connecting EU and non-EU entrepreneurs within novel disruptive market as part of the Erasmus for Young Entrepreneurs Global programme. In 2019 she worked as an Education Project Manager at ESTRO Aisbl in Brussels, where she organised educational courses created for doctors working in the radiotherapy and oncology field.

Her educational background includes a BEc (2011) in Economics and Business and a MEc (2013) in International Economics and Business (Università Politecnica delle Marche, Italy).

 

Francesca Capacci

Francesca Capacci is magfi Advisor specialised in Project Management. She is responsible for the coordination and implementation of Magfi activities within a number of EU funded projects. Her role encompasses project monitoring, team management, deliverable and report preparation, stakeholder engagement and ensuring full compliance with international and EU funding requirements.

Prior to joining Magfi, she gained extensive field experience in Sub-Saharan Africa. She worked with AVSI Foundation in Mozambique as a Project Manager, leading a large-scale clean cooking and carbon credit project. Previously, she served at CAM (Consorzio Associazioni con il Mozambico), first as a Junior Project Administrator in Italy managing project accounting, budget forecasting, and donor compliance and later as a Junior Programme Officer in Mozambique, coordinating GBV prevention and emergency response projects, activity planning, and project administration for major institutional donors.

Her professional expertise spans the full project lifecycle: EU project management, budget planning and forecasting, financial reporting and donor compliance, EU and Foundations’ funded proposal development, procurement, and stakeholder coordination, with a strong focus on climate action, local development, and gender equality.

Her educational background includes a Master’s degree in Development Sciences and International Cooperation (110/110 cum laude) from Sapienza University of Rome, a Bachelor’s Degree in International and Advertising Communication from the University for Foreigners of Perugia, and an executive Master’s in EU Projects Design and Management from Europa Business School.

Leanne Frawley

Leanne Frawley is a Magfi Analyst specialised in Project Management and Policy Analys. She is responsible for the coordination and implementation of Magfi activities within a number of EU-funded and B2B projects. Her role includes project monitoring, deliverable and report preparation and assessment, policy analysis, stakeholder engagement and ensuring compliance with EU funding requirements.

Prior to joining Magfi, she worked at EuroVértice Consultores within the European Cooperation Department as an EU Project Assistant, supporting European-funded projects under programmes including Interreg, Interreg NEXT MED, AMIF, Erasmus+ and CERV.
Her experience includes EU project management, policy analysis, proposal
development, project reporting and European cooperation, with a focus on supporting project implementation and coordination within international consortia.

Her educational background includes a BA in Political Science (Level 8) from the University of Galway, Ireland, and a Master’s in European Union Studies and Human Rights (Level 9) from UCAM – Universidad Católica San Antonio de Murcia, Spain.

Veronica Di Lorenzo

Veronica Di Lorenzo (MSc) is a Magfi ltd Advisor focused on technology solutions within the biotech and foodtech sectors, having over 5 years experience within the broader bioeconomy space. She is particularly active in business intelligence and EU proposal writing services.

Prior to joining Magfi she worked as Research Fellow at University of Tuscia DAFNE (Italy) within the NEMESI project (Green chemical nanotechnologies for the sustainable protection of plants) in 2020/2021. Before that, she focused on the bio-chemicals and biofuels production sector, via its her experiences in the R&D Lab of Versalis spa Renewable Research Center of Rivalta Scrivia (Italy) in 2019 as well as at University of Helsinki, within the “Fungal Genetics and Biotechnology” group for the AromaFung project in 2017/2018.

During her past roles within biotechnology R&D, Veronica has gathered direct technical experience in lignocellulosic biomass valorisation, working with microbial and fungal fermentation, enzymatic hydrolysis, and green and organic chemistry, with the aim to valorise mainly agro-industrial wastes to obtain high value-added bio-chemicals, biofuels, and agro-chemical for plant protection.

Her educational background includes a BSc in Biotechnology (2016, Rome, IT), an MSc in Industrial Biotechnology (2018, Rome, IT), and a Postgraduate Master in Bioeconomy and Circular Economy (2019, Milan, IT).

Michele Borroni

Michele Borroni (MSc) is a Magfi Analyst involved in the technological solutions for biotech and foodtech sectors. Michele has several years experience within the bioeconomy field, and he supports the team mainly through EU proposal writing and Business intelligence tasks.

Prior to this, Michele worked as junior project manager at Consorzio Italbiotec, based in Milan. During this experience, he had the chance to gain expertise in grant and technical report writing on one side, and funded project management on the other, all of which focused on the bioeconomy and foodtech sectors. In 2023, he moved to Queensland, Australia, returning back to Italy in 2024, after having significantly broadened his perspective and experience, and ready to contribute even more to the sustainable development in Europe.

His educational background is a BSc in Biotechnology (2019, Milan, IT) and an MSc in Biotechnology for the Bioeconomy, (2021, Milan, IT).

Elettra Magni

Elettra Magni (MSc) is a Magfi Analyst involved in the technological solutions for biotech and foodtech sectors. Elettra has several years experience within the bioeconomy field, and he supports the team mainly through EU proposal writing and Business intelligence tasks.

Prior to joining Magfi she worked at Thermo Fisher Scientific, where she managed laboratory documentation and inventory for quality control laboratories, and supported digitalization initiatives, as well as science educator at the National Museum of Science and Technology Leonardo da Vinci of Milan (Italy) where she conducted educational activities for schools, children and adults in interactive laboratories dedicated to Biotechnology, Genetics and Chemistry. Elettra also has hands-on technical experience in microbiology, particularly in the characterization of microorganisms, which included DNA extraction, in vitro antibiosis tests, and biocontrol assays.

Her educational background is a BSc in Biotechnology (2019, Milan, IT) and an MSc in Biotechnology for the Bioeconomy, (2022, Milan, IT).

Guglielmo Caridi

Guglielmo Caridi (MSc) is a Magfi Analyst focused on technical solutions within biotech, food tech and cleantech sectors. He is particularly active in supporting Magfi in EU proposal writing services and EU projects execution.

Prior to joining Magfi, Guglielmo acquired valuable experience in EU project execution and EU funding mechanisms, having supported in securing funding for over €50M. Driven by formative travel experiences early in life and equipped with a curious and resilient spirit, he is dedicated to contributing to Europe’s sustainable transformation.

His educational background is a BSc in Chemical Engineering (2022, Groningen, NL) and an MSc in Energy and Environmental Sciences (Science, Business & Policy track) (2025, Groningen, NL).

George Ciamita

George Ciamita is the Magfi ltd Advisor leading the company graphic design, web design and development activities, having more than 5 years of experience in this field working to help customers and brands to identify and solve their difficulties and transform their vision into reality as well as communicate with their users and clients through graphic design and development.

From 2017 to 2020 he co-founds and worked as a lead graphic designer for NOE Boutique (Nature of Earth) a clothing and accessories brand, among his duties and responsibilities were assure the quality of design, developing design concepts for the t-shirt line, prototyping, video advertising, marketing materials, online store maintenance.

As of 2018, under his own person brand “Evor Design” he specialises in graphic design and visual identity, packaging, web design and development. As graphic designer he has helped dozens of businesses across Europe by developing a solid identity and improving their workflow, since that he has developed over 30 brands visual identities, 20 websites, 5 eCommerce stores, 5 web apps.

Having started as self-thought professional in the 90s, his educational background was further complemented by a graphic design specialization (2018 California Institute of the Arts), an Adobe ACE in Photoshop and Illustrator CC (2019 Adobe Certified Expert) and a Writing, Design, and Presentation Specialization (2019 University of Colorado Boulder) as was as by continuous learning on the job to keep up and push forward in the ever evolving graphic and web-design field.
