Biomotion – ExplorerOne
Biomotion is an Austrian startup focused on making 3D bioprinting reliable, automated and ready for the next generation of tissue engineering applications. Its ExplorerOne bioprinter combines modular hardware with intelligent process monitoring to deliver reproducible prints across a wide range of biomaterials.
About the project
ExplorerOne is designed as an open, versatile platform that supports different printheads and printing modes, allowing researchers to combine multiple materials and cell types on a single system. The printer accepts a broad spectrum of hydrogels and pastes, including custom formulations, so laboratories are not locked into proprietary bioinks.
Biomotion’s wider vision is to move bioprinting from an artisanal process, heavily dependent on a single expert operator, to a robust technology where the process intelligence and monitoring guarantee consistent outcomes. Their work is informed by years of research in automation for tissue engineering and close collaboration with academic users.
WHAT BIOMOTION AIMS TO ACHIEVE
The company aims to close the gap between cutting-edge bioprinting research and practical, reproducible manufacturing of tissue constructs. ExplorerOne is built to collect real-time data on printing conditions and to adjust parameters so that each print stays within predefined quality windows, reducing failed runs and saving valuable cells and materials.
By lowering variability and simplifying operation, Biomotion wants to make high-end bioprinting accessible to more laboratories, including teams that do not have in-house automation specialists. This, in turn, should accelerate research in regenerative medicine, drug testing and advanced in-vitro models.
Over the longer term, Biomotion envisions an ecosystem where machine-learning co-pilots and interconnected bioprinters support standardised, regulator-ready workflows for tissue and implant fabrication.
MAGFI’S CONTRIBUTION
Magfi worked with Biomotion through the X2 Accelerator, supporting the company’s brand and communication strategy and helping clarify the value proposition of ExplorerOne for different user groups, from academic laboratories and core facilities to industrial R&D teams.
Our work included refreshing the visual identity and key messaging, positioning Biomotion around its “process-intelligent” bioprinting approach. We also fine-tuned website content, pitch materials and explanatory visuals to make complex features such as real-time monitoring and ML-based optimisation more accessible to target audiences.
Magfi also supported strategic communication planning, helping Biomotion identify relevant channels, events and narratives to engage early adopters and investors interested in more reliable and scalable bioprinting.
